School + coaching = no life

So it turns out that since August, my time has vanished. Pretty much from the first day of school on August 29th, my life has been in full gear. I love my new class schedule this year. Instead of all Lifetime Fitness classes like last year, I have 2 Lifetime classes, a team sports class which wasn't my favorite last year, but is going a lot smoother this year; an aerobic fitness class, which is an entirely new situation for me; and two stress management classes I'm teaching through Salt Lake CC. That class is fun to teach and I'm an adjunct professor at SLCC. Thank you master's degree!
Along with my classes, I am coaching swimming once again this year. It has been a lot tougher because I was basically promoted to be the head coach for the time being. It is kicking my butt everyday. Morning practices 4 days a week that start at 5:30 am and afternoon practices that start at 3 pm and go until 5 pm. In between I'm teaching from 8 am-2:30 pm. I'm exhausted and we still have 3.5 months to go. Being the head coach is a job in itself. Last year I could stay at the school for a few minutes after school to get some things done and show up a little late and it would be fine. Now, I'm trying to beat the kids to the pool so they aren't acting like complete mutants. We share the 21 lane pool at Kearns with West Jordan HS and Kearns HS. It actually works out better than I thought it would, except on meet days. Those are a little tougher. So far, I'm learning a lot more than I bargained for, and if I ever do get the opportunity to be a head coach (hopefully not for swimming) in a different sport, I will be ready to take on anything.
I've made it through one entire quarter and my classes are much better this year than last. I realize that I had too many free days last year with the other teachers, but have now made it so I am my own entity and teaching what I need/want to. My kids are actually really good this year and I'm enjoying what I do everyday. I've said this before, but teaching really is such a great career choice for me. In January, I get all new kids in every single class and I really like being a half-year teacher. I love that I get to meet a lot of different kids each year and get to know their personalities. The wonderful thing about teaching PE and health classes is that a lot of personalities come out and you can really see the good characteristics in kids (and sometimes the bad, but usually not that often).
